Vinay studied Architecture at BVB College of Engineering and joined Gayatri and Namith Associates (GNA) in 2008. He was in GNA for 6.5 years and gained very good experience in architecture and managing turnkey projects. In 2014, he founded Sudaiva Studio which is focussed in Architecture, Interiors. Geeth joined the firm a year later to start the Product design vertical. Geeth did his Electronics Engineering at BITS, Pilani and has over 13 years of experience in Electronics field before joining GNA for an year. Geeth is focused in Product design and is working on designing and creating Italian kitchens that can be customized at very affordable prices.
As Geeth puts it, the thought behind the product design is that when they did interiors, they came across segments such as Kitchens that are locally made with average quality or it is Italian made with a high cost and long wait time. They wanted to get the look, feel and quality of Italian kitchens but at a lower cost and quickly delivered.
In terms of Architecture, Sudaiva Studio targets the segment of people who do villas and bungalows. They look for very cost effective, different and good architecture. Sudaiva studio caters mainly to the Tier-B and Tier-C towns where the requirement for this is high. Current ongoing projects are located at Bangalore, Chamrajnagar, Mandya and Belur. Vinay educates the clients on the trends in Architecture, what can suit the client better for his/her life style and needs.
According to Vinay, a good design is making things simple and that’s what Sudaiva Studio does when they work with the clients to understand what they want, deliver a simple yet right solution for the need. There is no gap between architecture and interiors. One flows into another. Interior design is an extension of architecture. They are working on integrating Indian culture into contemporary style of architecture.
In all of their projects, they use the material that is locally available to bring in the tone of the place, localism yet very contemporary. The projects that they do is becoming landmarks in those respective towns due to the look, choice of materials used, open spaces in architecture among other things. It is their way of doing sustainable architecture. It is a popular myth that people think good architecture and architect is expensive. They are trying to break that myth and reach out to many clients in small towns and are doing commendable work.
Sudaiva Studio has some interesting signatures in their projects. For example, they bring in nature entering into the building and lot of light everywhere, bed rooms opening up to well lit, nature inspired central family area, views from inside overlooking the garden, double height living spaces and more. They undertake turnkey and take care of entire thing – Design, Interior and Construction. It gives them more control over the project in terms of cost, resources and timeline.
In terms of cost, as of the time of this interview, they are working at Rs1600 – Rs1800 per sqft to design and build a reasonably good project.
Sudaiva Studio is located at Sarjapur road in Bangalore.
